First of all, we have to eliminate all the single numbers like 2,3,6,7,8,J & K. Secondly, exclude the
triple number - 4 as well. It left only 5, A & Q are the double numbers which respectively in 3 different rank.
Let's take a look to the original status.
Heart : A , Q / 4
Club : Q , 5 / 4 , 6
Diamond : A , 5
Refer to the status as illustrated, it has no posibility at all for them to find out the answer by a single
hint, unless the card is diamond A. Because the diamond is the one which only has two cards in the
section, and the rest sections are having more than two.
Obviously, if Mr.P & Mr.Q were able to find out what the answer is, it has a only posibility that the
card is diamond A.

Raymond, you missed the most important clue: "I knew, even before you answered, that you do not know which card."
The key word is "I knew", for Mr. Q to say that, he couldn't be told Spade or Club, coz those two suits contain unique cards. |

It's interesting, my analysis is other than yours. Mr.Q only knew what the suit is, the posibility is 50/50,
could be A or 5. Regarding the mentioned key word " I knew " of Mr.Q, from which has'nt any
substantial support, as the card 5 is not unique, that's why he will never be able to know which card by only an advise of diamond suit.
It's funny indeed, however, I need to zzzzzzzzz...., let's chat again tomorrow ! See you then. |

Heart A, Q, 4
Diamond A, 5
Mr. P: "Now I know which card."
If Mr. P is holding the "A", he won't be able to tell which suit it is.
(Don't forget, it's Mr. P who said he knew which card it is. Mr. P only holds the number/letter. For him to tell which card it is, the number/letter must be unique at this point, which could be 4, 5 or Q)
So we left with 3 cards:
Heart Q, 4
Diamond 5
Now for Mr. Q to subsequently said he also knows which card, which means he can tell base on what suit he is told. So think, if he's told a Heart, can he tell which card it is?

After exclusion of cards
Heart A, Q, / 4
Club Q, 5, / 4, 6, K
Diamond A, 5
Now it left only 3 rows of possible cards which are in front of the / . Refer to your answer Diamond 5, Mr. P knew what the number is but the suit, and Mr. Q knew the suit but the number, the card 5
could be Club, and Diamond could be A as well. Therefore, the chance is still 50/50, having no
conspicuous clue for them to hit the answer.
Regarding the key word “ I knew “, this is only a wishful thinking from Mr. Q his own, it is
ungrounded, unless it’s from Prof. John, then we can call it the key word.
It is too hard to explain my inference, just like the “ Master Mind “ game. Should it be a deducible
game, I do think that the correct answer could not be Diamond 5 by both of my inference and
intuition.
However, I’ll go through again again and again !!

After Step 2, 成個 Club 都 out 了呀﹗因為 6 同 K 是 unique card, 如 Mr. Q was told a Club from the beginning﹐他就不會肯定 Mr. P 是不知個答案的﹔if Q's given a Club, there's a possibility the number/letter could be unique, thus he couldn't be sure that Mr. P would not know the answer from the very beginning.
我明你講乜﹐因我開頭都想不清的。這個 logic 每一個 step 你是要只想一個人(Q or P) 的觀點﹐不能混埋一起才 get 到這個重點的﹗駛唔駛我送多個枕頭你去想清楚呀﹖  |
